Logain Good, Taim Bad

Okay, of all of the theory posts I've seen, this "thread" seems to be on the biggest wild goose chase.

Does no one remember Egwene's vision of a man with an obscure face standing beside Rand with a knife to Rand's throat? That man is almost definitely Taim. Taim barely conceals his contempt for Rand, and his lust for the power Rand holds. The vision itself implies a man standing 'beside' Rand in more ways than one. Not just physically beside him, but beside him as in with regards to fealty. Rand never trusts Taim, Lews Therin's voice is always telling Rand to "kill him" whenever Taim enters the scene.

All of this nonsense about Taim being Demandred simply must stop. I know Demandred is instructed by the Great One to "Let the Lord of Chaos Rule," but to openly go to him and help him raise and train his army of Asha'man? I think that's somewhat absurd. Demandred is, in fact, leading the Shaido Aiel (as anyone with a brain can see). Yes, Demandred could be doing both quite easily, but still, the desired results from both seem to be different.

I don't trust Taim, though. His mysterious appearance when the Gray Man comes after Rand is certainly suspicious.

I simply think Taim is one of the new Chosen of this Age. I tend to go along with someone else's theory of how Ages are similar, and just like Demanded might have been jealous of Lews Therin's power and influence (thus the reason for him turning to the Shadow), Taim might be the same way, following the pattern of the Ages. I would be more willing to believe this line of thinking if there were others to mirror the other Chosen as well.

In any case, I can't believe that Taim is Demandred.

Logain, on the other hand - that's different. Logain hates the Reds and after hearing of what the "Tar Valon Tower" tried to do to Rand, he will side with him wholeheartedly. I highly doubt Logain will get Callandor , though. If Rand doesn't trust himself with it, can he trust Logain? Will Rand really give him such a powerful sa'angreal, when he knows that in the giving of it, Logain can overpower him unless Rand uses that other sa'angreal statue with the crystal? If Rand doesn't trust himself with Callandor, surely he couldn't trust himself in the use of the statue. In giving Callandor to Logain, he would have to be able to trust himself in the use of the statue to defend himself should Logain turn on him. Rand would have to give Callandor to Logain with the utter certainty that Logain wouldn't turn on him. Rand is way too paranoid to do that.

I DO believe Logain will save Rand from Taim's attempt to kill him. It won't happen with Callandor, but Taim will probably be distracted by Logain long enough for Rand to overcome him. Or maybe Logain will reveal Taim for what he really is (a Darkfriend) and will gain Rand's trust in that way.

Also, just keep in mind what Logain told Nynaeve about when he saw Rand in Caemlyn while he was "on parade" on his way to being Gentled. Logain saw him, recognized his power, and laughed.

wotmania says: Well, some parts of your theory I agree with, others I do not... I certainly agree that Taim is not Demandred. I also agree that it will be Logain who saves Rand from Taim. I disagree that Rand cannot trust Logain with Callandor - he will not be affected by the lack of a buffer. And I think Rand could trust himself with the huge sa'angreal because it is properly buffered. That is about it here - good theory!

wotmania, Rand didn't not trust himself with the figure sa'angreal because of buffers. He didn't trust himself because he is afraid of what he might do with all that power

Taim and Demandred

Personally, I believe that Taim is most certainly Demandred. His personality matches Demandred so closely, and the thing with the patterns of the ages is that somone who is still alive from a past age will not be repeated in the current one(such as Birgitte being torn out of Tel'Aran'Rhiod and not being able to be spun out, causing discontinuity for Gaidal Cain) As for the comment about building the army of trained Asha'man for Rand, I don't know if I'm the only one who's noticed where their loyalties really lie or not, but it seems most of them would follow Taim and completely disregard Rand if it came to conflict between the two.
