Some Food For Thought

Here’s some more fuel for the fire. I don’t buy Taim’s story about how he got one of the seals. It’s too flimsy, I think he offered it just to get into Rand’s confidence. As a Forsaken he could care less who has it since the Dark One will escape no matter what. Taim’s fortuitous appearance when a Gray Man showed up in Rand’s throne room. Did he gain some knowledge that someone had sent the Gray Man or maybe he sent it himself. Then there is Taim’s knowledge of Sammael’s plan to defend Illian (p496, Lord of Chaos): "...what I would do in Sammael’s place. I would have Illian warded in boxes,..." Lews Therin knows Sammael is more inclined for someone to bring the fight to him because he is a master of defense, but how does Taim know this? Another fortuitous appearance of Taim at the end of Lord of Chaos at Dumai’s Wells. No explanation is ever given by him on how he knew where Rand was. This is small, but it is a question that just bugs me. When Perrin smells any Asha’man, there is always a changing of emotions quicker than any other normal person. This is a sign of the coming madness, but Taim’s scent is always stable... why?

wotmania says: Everyone always thinks Taim is Demandred. Sigh... I like the point about Taim’s scent being stable - the fact that the taint does not touch him would certainly be a reasonable explanation for this. Maybe one of these days I will be convinced Taim is Demandred. If I could ask Jordan only one question, this would probably be the one. Or maybe I would ask how many books this series is going to be...

There is a explanation to how Taim ended up there.

This is an extract taken from Karl-Johan Noréns summary.

""
Summary of various talks with Robert Jordan that I attended at the East of the Sun fantasy convention, Stockholm, Sweden the 16-18 of June 1995.
""

"He said that they knew where Rand was. How they did know he began with the following words: "Mazrim Taim is a paranoid S.O.B." [ exact quote! ]. When finding out of the disappearal of Rand, and a large bunch of Aiel from Cairhien, he followed the route from Cairhien towards Tar Valon by Traveling, until he encountered Elaida's Aes Sedai. From there, he brought in the Asha'man. "

The actual praise should go to Karl-Johan Norén for recording and publishing that text. Unfortunatley his homepage has been "gone?" for a couple of years now.

OK, we know that Taim is a little weird. Well, who's to say that Taim isn't one of the other male forsaken? Maybe he's Moridin in disguise...
OK, so I'm not really buying it either, but hey. It's an idea.

Asha'man scents

The only person whose scent changes too fast for any person is Rand. Perrin comments on it in Chapter 2 of CoS. It's because of Lews Therin inside Rand's head, not because of saidin.
