A Case for Faile's Death

Posted by Matrim on 24.01.01 00:00

Faile says to Perrin, "Should I die, you shall mourn for a decent period, then find a new wife, someone I would approve of or my soul shall haunt yours." Later in The Path of Daggers she admits, albeit grudgingly, that should Berelain put aside her trying to win Perrin she might actually like her. When Elayne and Nynaeve were on their way to apologize to Matrim, Elayne said "you should be wearing white, you look like you are going to a funeral." Nynaeve agreed. Should Faile die Perrin would wear white at her funeral and maybe for a mourning period after. Is Perrin Berelain's "Man in White." It's an interesting twist, unlike Galad, and would shock readers.

Egwene's dreams say Aram is going to influence Perrin in a bad way. This may be to save Faile no matter the cost in life or it may be a blood-thirsty revenge against the Shaido.

Min says "Berelain will fall head over heels for a man in white." Not that he loves her. Does this mean she will see a man in white and fall instantly in love? Or will she fall for a man who may at sometime take to wearing white?

Galad. The Whitecloaks are closing in on Perrin and the Prophet. The chances of him meeting Berelain on the battlefield are pretty slim. The Winter's Heart cover and bogus back cover suggest Berelain escaped straight to Perrin and didn't run into any Whitecloaks who would be traveling in one big army to take on the Prophet.

The only problem is Min's "Broken Crown" vision in The Eye of the World. Be it the Saldaean Crown or Bashere Land it would not go to Faile's widower but to her younger brother. I think it is Family Land as when Perrin asked Faile about the Broken Crown she smelled wary and upset and changed the subject. Why? What's the big secret? Perrin knows she is third in line for the Saldaean crown. The only possibility would be if Perrin became King of Ghealdan and includes the Two Rivers and Baerlon (sorry Elayne) and the family land is above Baerlon or that this was part of Manetheren land (i.e. Broken Crown). Davram Bashere may give this to the new King of Manetheren. When Perrin mentioned his concern that the Ghealdans may believe Rand is setting up Perrin as King of Manetheren, Faile smelled wary and changed the subject. I think no matter what happens to Faile she has ambitions for Perrin to be the King of the New Manetheren.

wotmania says: First, I think this is a pretty interesting theory, and I am sure there are plenty of people out there (everyone who does not like Faile) who would be happy to see this happen. It would certainly put a different twist on things. And if Jordan kills off Faile, at least he will have finally killed someone we have seen for a while. The only other good guy who has died so far that I can recall (off the top of my head) is Ingtar. But what is Bashere Land or Family Land? I got a little confused during that last paragraph... In any event, I can certainly see Perrin and Berelain ending up as King and Queen of a new Manetheren, and I think that would be a cool twist to the plot.

Faile is cool! Way cooler than Berelain, anyways, and she definately should not die.

I never considered this, but it looks like a posibilty, but not something that is certain.
The crown part is a problem, but maybe it means, broken as in he won't have any longer.
Far fetch however. I am going to have to read about the viewing of the two birds that perch
on Perin's shoulders. If I remember right, one has a leash the other doesn't. It is obviouse which
represents which woman, but I also seem to remember a dream of Egwene's that may prove this
theory even more so. Unfortunatly, my mind as gone blank.

I like Faile better and I wouldn't want to see her die. What happens- happens.

Faile lives

Of course Faile is not going to die. Perrin has already lost his WHOLE family; why on earth would Jordan then kill off his wife - it doesn't make any sense. Futhermore, accepting that Berelain's 'man in white' is in mourning is one thing, immediately making Perrin that man just because you prefer her to Faile is misguided, in my opinion.

Given that the books are intricate in nature, not surreal, I think that it is more probable that the man in white is either a WHITEcloak (probably Galad - he needs someone like Berelain to balance his own prudish character) or another noted for wearing white.

Gai'shain is the other group that springs to mind, but, given that the most likely way of introducing Berelain to one of the gai'shain would have been to have had her kidnapped along with Faile & co., Galad, our starring Whitecloak who is just as gorgeous as Berelain, is still the best bet.

(As far as the Broken Crown is concerned - I think that Bashere and Tenobia will die, making Faile and Perrin king and queen of Saldaea.)

Another white group

Just remembered another bunch who wear white - the Seanchan servants. Given that the Panarch of Tarabon ended up as one of these, it's likely that another ruler did or will do. Such a person would also be a suitable partner for Berelain, and she'd have the added benefit of seeing him practically naked first.

I suppose, however, that this would involve her coming into contact with the Seanchan, which is not very likely. Oh well, it was just another example of the number of possibilities for her man in white.

gai'shan

i don't think Faile will die. i have to say that i really don't care either way and Perrin and Berelain getting together would be a very cool plot twist. i just have a gut feeling that Berelain's "man in white" is going to be a gai'shan. She always seems to be hanging out with the Aiel right? Gaul i think would be a good fit... yes i know he is love with Bain or Chaid or somebody... but Berelain... hubba hubba... and again Min says that SHE is going to fall for a man in white, not that her feelings will be returned of course. So, Gaul is made gai'shan by the Shaido maybe... and ta dah!

hooray for beer!

The whiteclad man

The white clothed man will be perrin when he tries to rescue faile from the aiel camp they will disguise themself as gaishan and try to rescue her, when she sees him she will litterally fall head over heels...

hmmm...*ponder*

We know Perrin's entire family is dead, and killing off Faile would be like the greatest of all hells, wouldn't it? I mean, maybe all of these bad things are happening to Perrin for a reason...to subconciously guide him to where he needs to be. Sorry, I hate Faile. This is me trying to put it nicely that I want her dead.

PS - My apologies to all Faile-lovers, but I think you might be outnumbered on this one.

She just can't...

Faile can't die for numerous reasons that I mentioned in my post on the other theory that she is going to die.
Besides Berelain may end up being Perrins 2 wife.

Another thought is that the guy(sorry can't remember his name) who caught Faile will help her in some way escape and he will being wearing white and Berelain will fall for him.

Egwene Fan
Elaida will fall!!!
Egwene is meant to rule the White Tower and even Rand will know her fury!!

No.

Faile is too important. She's heir to the Saldaean throne, whether it's the Broken Crown or not, and if it ISN'T the Broken Crown, then she's heir to that TOO. Plus, why would Perrin rule Saldaea? He knows NOTHING of their culture or people - if he rules Saldaea he will NEED Faile. Plus he's an idiot. SHE'S the one that makes ALL the shrewd, political moves. He just makes the obvious ones that anyone could figure out with some thought and intelligence. (It's true. Building a wall to slow Trollocs down? Wow, how brilliant. Hunting small bands of Trollocs down? So clever.)

Plus, Min's viewings always see the FUTURE, and she said that Berelain WILL fall in love. WILL indicates a FUTURE TENSE, and there's no way in hell that Berelain will see Perrin in white and suddenly fall in love with him when being with him for FOUR books didn't do it for her.

Salea is too obvious for the broken crown....

...RJ loves to fool us into thinking we know the answer. You must remember that Manetheren was a nation that was 'broken'. Thus if Perrin re-raises Manetheren from the grave, which he is alreadyu doing without trying, he is the obvious choice for the King. That leads to two scenarios:

1. The crown he wears could be considered a 'broken' crown since Manetheren was once broken, and now reforged by the hands of a Blacksmith.

2. Perrin asks Davrim Bashere to use his families 'broken crown' as the Crown of Manetheren in his dead wife Faile's loving memory.

Personally I don't think Davrim would do taht, but who knows.

Just a thought.
