Why the Seals failed

This theory also esplains Fel's note about cleaning the rubble.

As anyone who as watched Bob Veila or has put in a sprinkler system, or had to take shop class, or put on those fake nails knows that the first step to putting together two things is sanding.

First you have to SAND the two pieces. What this does is CLEAN the RUBBLE or plastic shavings, or dirt, or what ever else that is stopping you from having a clean surface, so that the pieces fit together better. Lews Therin failed to do this.

Thats why the forsaken who were at the tippy top of the seal were able to affect outside events. the seal was unable to be placed totally securely in every little nook and cranny. Think of it as holding water with your cupped fingers (not the palm but the fingers). No matter how hard you try to keep your fingers together the water will eventually all leak out. Now if you had placed a line of glue between your fingers (or another liquidy-sticky substance) and then place the water there, no water would leak out.

Try this at home:
Find an empty soda can and remove the tab. make sure it is throughtly rinsed out. now fill it water (you might want to do this over a sink. Then place your thumb over the drinking hole and turn the can over. What happens?? It leaks thats what.

Now turn the can back over and get some silly putty or play-dough or the like. Place that over the drinking hole (don't cheat make sure its securely fastened). now turn the can upside down. What happens?? Well what do you know it doesn't leak!

This is why I think Ishy was able to and the DO is able to affect the world. The bore into the DO's prison left little nooks, crannys, and fracture lines, so when the seal was placed over the hole, the seal was unable to fill all of the nooks, crannys and crevices allowing a slight influencing of the world.

Raserei says: Interesting analogy! I like the silly putty idea.

And i believe that the seals and such is true. Good job.

But I wouldn't suggest sticking glue to your fingers. It may take lots of time and $$$ to fix

I took some elmers glue, spread it across my hands in a light glaze, stuck my hands together, once it was totally dry, i'd break my palms apart, then peel the dried glue off.

it was fun!

Why aren't all males mad? The Seals are the only heatstones known to be tied to sadin, therefore the only ones affected.

OMG! I can't believe that anyone really thinks there's any merit in this theory. Look, the seals are only focus points for the power, the bore isn't a literal hole, it's a thinning in the pattern. The DO is trapped outside the pattern, do you really think you can patch a hole in the pattern with a physical element, be it heartstone or not? Sheesh!

Just focus points

The Bore was not sealed with cuendillar, but rather with weaves of Saidin. The hearstone disk (that may have been ter'angreals) were merely focus points like the stone and staff that Moiraine used to make use of.

The fact that they tried to patch to hole with only half half of the one power meant that the seals (which should have been made from weaves of Saidar and Saidin mixed together) were not complete and therefore improper for the task that they were made for.

The wood working analogy is actually very good if you think beyond mere physical matter and look at it as a metaphor for the one power and the true power.

The reason that the one power is stronger than the 'true' power is that it is balanced between man and woman. So to counter the dark one power you'd need both halves of it to seal the bore.

The fact that the bore wasn't cleared away would have made the effort of a two gender sealing useless anyway. It could have tainted both genders.

Sooner or later it all connects back to itself.

If we can have a theory about the dark one not being sealed completely and so on and so forth, and still think its legitamate, then lend your ears to the tale of Madrox...

A quick and simple explanation of the Dark ones escape from his prison...

Before defeating the Dark One Rand must smash all the seals (clear the rubble before rebuilding). I mean, just you try to build a skyscraper on the uncleared ruins of a destroyed building (try this at home: bomb the Acropolis and try to build a skyscraper on it).

Remember, there were no seals in the AOL, but the DO was not yet truly free. Breaking the seals does not free the Dark One (it allows him to touch the Earth, not walk it), although it does clear the way for the Forsaken to play with the bore.
